Now that fall is coming up, the Colorado Department of Transportation’s (CDOT) “The Heat Is On” campaign has begun yet another enforcement period for drunk driving. The last Heat campaign ran from August 21 to September 8, covering the Labor Day holiday, and resulted in nearly 1,000 DUI arrests.
This instance of the campaign covers the “Fall Festival” days from September 18 through October 26, over one month of increased drunk driving enforcement to combat the rise of impaired driving resulting from events like Oktoberfest and the beginning of the 2015 football season.
There is nothing wrong with wanting to have a good time. Whether you are leaving the stadium, the bar or a friend’s party during this period of enforcement, you have plenty of options to get home without driving drunk. Buses, cabs and a sober friend are all options. You can also look into Uber and Lyft – by using the promo codes NODUICO and CDOTRideSafe, respectively, while signing up for the apps, you can receive a $20 credit on your first ride. If you aren’t going far, that’s essentially a free ride!
If you do end up getting busted, though, it doesn’t need to be the end of the world – contact a Denver drunk driving attorney immediately for assistance in getting out of your mess. An attorney’s assistance is by far the most effective means of getting your sentence reduced, and can make a huge difference in the outcome of your case. And given that even a first DUI can cost $10,270 according to CDOT, you don’t want to go it alone.
